What does the status of my Interlibrary Loan (ILL) request mean?

Answer

As your request moves through our system, its status (which you can see via your ILL Services Account), changes accordingly.  You'll find explanations of many of the more common statuses below.  Don't see the status you're looking for?  Let us know

For Interlibrary Loan:

Awaiting Copyright Clearance All copy requests must first go through copyright clearance, whereby ILL staff determine if UMD Libraries must pay copyright. Submit your requests with a year, ISSN/ISBN, and pages to expedite this stage.

Awaiting Direct Request Sending

Awaiting Rapid Sending

Awaiting Rapid Local Sending

Awaiting OCLC Sending

Your request is being sent out to other libraries without ILL staff mediation.  Most requests submitted with an ISSN/ISBN number or an OCLC number are obtained in this fashion. 
Awaiting Request Processing  Your request is waiting to be processed.  ILL staff process requests in the order in which they were received. 
Awaiting Rapid Local Processing            Our holdings indicate that UMD may own this item.  ILL staff must check the catalog before sending your request to other libraries, or routing it to Article Express (for faculty/grads) or cancelling it (undergrads).
Awaiting Aleph Hold Processing A copy of the item you requested is available at a USMAI library. We’re going to place a hold for you, rather than getting it via ILL. 
Awaiting Offsite Storage Processing This item is available in Offsite Storage.  ILL staff at UMD are going to place a hold for you (if it’s a loan) or request a copy (for an article), rather than getting it via ILL.

Request via Offsite Storage

ILL staff at UMD have placed a hold for you, or requested a copy from Offsite. After the item is available for pick-up or download, the status will change to Request Finished. 
Request Sent ILL staff at UMD have processed your request, sending it to potential lending libraries.  A request may remain here for up to 12 weeks while the potential lending libraries consider this request.    
Awaiting Post Receipt Processing Your item has arrived at McKeldin Library, but ILL staff have not yet finished processing your item.  
In Transit to Pickup Location Your item has been processed and strapped by ILL staff and is currently en route to your selected pickup location.
Awaiting McKeldin Shelving Items in this status have arrived at the Mckeldin and are in the final stage of processing. Patrons will receive an email shortly when the item is available for pick up. During normal business hours, items in this status can be expedited if requested at the Mckeldin Library Services Desk.
Awaiting Customer Contact Item is ready for pick-up at the McKeldin Circulation Desk, a notification is about to be sent to your inbox.
Customer Notified Via Email Item is ready for pick-up at the McKeldin Circulation Desk, and will remain until its due date.
Awaiting Unfilled Processing    The lending libraries to which your request was sent were unable to fill your request.  If you still need this item, email docdel@umd.edu with the transaction number, and ILL staff will send your request to more libraries ASAP. 
Check Notes                                                         You added a note when placing your request. We pay close attention to the notes field, pulling requests with notes out of the the proccessing flow to check them. Until the note has been checked and processing continued, the request will remain in this queue. 
Awaiting User Clarification Processing suspended until ILL staff receive a response from you.  Requests remain here one week before being cancelled. 
Awaiting Consultation    Processing suspended until ILL staff have been able to consult with a colleague, the lending library, or the ILL supervisor.
Extensive Searching ILL staff are still searching for a library that may be able to provide this item, which is proving difficult to locate.
Awaiting ALA Request Processing   Since this item cannot be obtained from a library that participates in our online interlibrary loan systems, ILL staff are preparing to send them a request form via email, fax, or snail mail. 
Delivered to the Web Your article should now be available for download from your ILL Services Account.  Articles are only available for download for two weeks. 
Request Finished Your loan has been returned to the lending library, or your period for downloading your article has passed. 

For Article Express:

Awaiting DocDel Processing Your request has been submitted and is awaiting processing
Awaiting DD Stacks Searching Your request has been processed and now must be printed, so ILL staff can search the stacks.
In DD Stacks Searching Your request is being pulled and scanned.
EPSL Searching Your request is being pulled and scanned at EPSL.
Art Searching Your request is being pulled and scanned at the Art Library.
Delivered to the Web Your article should now be available for download from your ILL Services Account. Articles are only available for download for two weeks. 
Request Finished Your period for downloading your article has passed.  Check Notes field for a URL if ILL staff referred you to an article from a database or the open web.
