Like many University Libraries, the University of Maryland Libraries face multiple challenges in the effort to build and maintain collections and provide access to the resources needed to support their institutional research and teaching mission.
The collection budget at UMCP, like many other institutions, has failed to keep up with the rising costs of the information marketplace. One result of these budgetary constraints is that the Libraries' subscription to Gartner will not be renewed. Access to the database ended in August 2015.
Unfortunately, there is no comparable database to Gartner.
The decision to cancel Gartner was made by the Campus IT, the Robert H. Smith School of Business, and the Libraries, as it was a tri-level subscription collaboration that would not have been possible to maintain by one individual unit.
