Like many university libraries, the University of Maryland Libraries face multiple challenges in the effort to build and maintain collections and provide access to the resources needed to support their institutional research and teaching mission.
The collection budget at UMD, like many other institutions, has failed to keep up with the rising costs of the information marketplace. One result of these budgetary constraints is that the Libraries' subscription to Films on Demand: Career & Technical Education Master Collection will not be renewed. Access to this database will end on March 30, 2016.
The Films on Demand: Career & Technical Education Master Collection provided streaming video of full length educational titles on: technical education, families & consumers, careers & jobs, guidance & counseling. This collection also includes video clips and archival films & newsreels.
These remaining alternatives, in video and textual formats, include the following resources:
UMD Libraries Video Resource Databases:
• Films on Demand Master Academic Collection
• Counseling and Therapy in Video
• Education in Video
• Filmmakers Library Online
• Footage Access
• WorldCat UMD (includes University Libraries media collections)
UMD Video Tutorials Database
UMD Libraries Digital Video Collections
• Films@UM Digital Video Library
UMD Libraries Multidisciplinary Databases:
• Academic Search Complete
• Statistical Abstract of the United States (ProQuest)
• LexisNexis Academic
• Periodicals Index Online
