Like many University Libraries, the University of Maryland Libraries faces multiple challenges in the effort to build and maintain collections and provide access to the resources needed to support the institutional research and teaching mission. The collection budget at UMCP, like many other institutions, has failed to keep up with the rising costs of the information marketplace. One result of these budgetary constraints is that the Libraries' subscription to Artnet will not be renewed. Access to the database will end on April 11, 2016. Subject librarians in the Art & Humanities disciplines collaborated in this decision, which was based on cost and comparative usage. Alternatives to Artnet include:
- Blouin Art Sales Index Access to several million art auction records from 1922 to the present from sales held in North America, Europe, India and China. Includes market data for key artists, as well as ability to search by auction lot. Also provides an Artist Index which includes biographical information.
