Hello. Not everyone who uses UMD Libraries can borrow items through Interlibrary Loan.

The following groups DO have borrowing privileges:

  • Current UMCP students, faculty, and staff members
  • Retired faculty/staff (who have activated their retiree status)
  • Research Affiliates (AFL I)
  • Graduate Assistants with a Joint Borrowers Card

If you belong to one of these groups and you are still denied access:

When logging-in to ILL Services, you should be prompted  to choose your campus affiliation BEFORE you log in to your account.  Please be sure that you are selecting the correct option before proceeding to the next step.  Most UMCP users will select the first option before entering their Directory ID and password.  If you are a graduate assistant with a Joint Borrower's card and are placing a request for a faculty member, you should choose the second option, and log in with the barcode and last name on the Joint card.

ILL affiliation choice screen

If you do not see the screen above when logging-in, please clear the internet browser's cache, history and cookies, then try to log-in again.  This screen should now appear, and after selecting the first option, you should be able to enter your directory ID and password, then place your ILL request.

If you happen to see a message similar to this:

It is likely that your browser is not up to date. We recommend updating your browser, or switching to an alternate browser that is more current.

If you're attempting to access your account from a federal facility or U.S. Government network, you will not be able to gain access. Please wait and try to place your request later on another network.

If you are blocked and see the following screen--

ILL Account Blocked

--your ILL borrowing privileges have been temporarily blocked.  This may occur if you have an ILL item that is more than three weeks overdue or if you do not have a current email address on file.  In this case, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Office for more information on how to restore your access.
