Hello,

Interlibrary loan items do not accrue late fines as per our billing policy.

However, there are other consequences to not returning these items on time.  If it has been recalled, it will start accruing a $5/day fine. If you have not been in communication with us, your ILL privileges may be blocked, and you will not be able to check out ILL books that have arrived.  Once you return the overdue item(s) or pay for the item's replacement, your account will be unblocked.

If a borrowing library bills UMD Libraries for a long overdue item (which can happen any time after an ILL item is more than 60 days overdue), you will be charged the Libraries' standard $125 replacement fee. Additional charges may apply depending on the lending library and/or number of volumes pertaining to this request.

If you have an overdue item and are currently unable to return it in person to an acceptable service point (see ILL Pick Up & Return), please contact ILL staff at docdel@umd.edu or 301-405-9178 to discuss other return options.
