Interlibrary loan items do not accrue late fines like University of Maryland books and equipment do.
However, there are other consequences to not returning these items on time. When an item is 3 weeks overdue, your ILL privileges will be blocked, and you will not be able to place new ILL requests or check out ILL books that have arrived. Once you return the overdue item(s) or pay for the item's replacement, your account will be unblocked.
If a borrowing library bills UMD Libraries for a long overdue item (which can happen anytime after an ILL item is more than 30 days overdue), you will be charged the Libraries' standard $205 replacement and processing fee. Additional charges may apply depending on the lending library and/or number of volumes pertaining to this request.
If you have an overdue item and are currently unable to return it in person to an acceptable service point (listed here), please contact ILL staff at email@example.com or 301-405-9178 to discuss other return options.
