Hello,

Undergraduate students can check out most books* for up to a semester (Initial due dates will be: May 1, August 1, or December 1).

Additionally, when your due date is near you can renew your books online, as long as:

  • your account is still active
  • your due date is less than a month away
  • the book is not more than 60 days overdue

For example, Undergrads can check out a UMCP book, renew it after the initial set due date ( e.g., a renewal on 4/2 will have a due date of 8/1). However, due to recalls, there is no way to guarantee that you will be able to keep a book all semester.  If the book is a textbook or another book required or recommended for a class, it will likely be in high demand among your classmates and thus recalled.

For information about saving money on textbooks check out this FAQ.

*Note: If the book in question is not part of our general collection or is an interlibrary loan, the loan period may be shorter, and renewals may be limited (or in the case of ILL, not available at all.)
