Hello,
A good question! Interlibrary Loan staff at UMD Libraries can only request books once other libraries make them available for loan. Generally, new books take some time before many libraries purchase and catalog them. Many libraries put restrictions on new books that prevent them from circulating through ILL when they initially arrive. We have found that, generally, 1-2 months after a book is released there will be enough possible lenders that an ILL request will be successful.

Another option is to suggest that UMD's Libraries purchase the material by using the Suggestion of a Title for Purchase form, or by speaking with the subject specialist for you field.
