(1) Join LibChat: Starting from the library's homepage (https://lib.umd.edu) - click the "chat with us" button:
(2) Chat with a Librarian: Librarians are typically available to answer reference questions Monday through Thursday from 10 AM to 6 PM and Friday from 10 AM to 5 PM. Once connected to a librarian, look for the invitation to join a screen sharing session in your LibChat window:
(3) Join the Screen Share: If this is your first time using LibChat screen sharing, a download will begin. If the download doesn't begin immediately, visit https://zoom.us/support/download to get the download started.
If you are unable to download or install the Zoom meeting launcher, you can also join the screensharing session via your web browser. For this, we strongly recommend that you use Google Chrome (or other Chromium-based browsers, such as the new Microsoft Edge), as joining the meeting audio and other functionality may not work in Firefox or other browsers.
(4) Join the Meeting: You will be prompted to enter your name, then click "join" to join the meeting.
Once you've signed in to the screensharing session, you'll be prompted to join the meeting audio, which will allow you and the other user will be able to talk with each other over a high-quality VoIP connection.
Though you will most likely use your computer's audio, you may change the source of the microphone/speaker by clicking on the up arrow next to the Microphone icon on the bottom left of the meeting toolbar. A menu will appear where you can change your audio input/output devices to connect to headphones, or switch to call into the meeting on a phone. To mute and unmute your audio during a meeting, click on the Microphone icon in the meeting toolbar.
Sharing your Screen: This will allow you (or the other user) to share the entire screen or just individual windows.
Enabling Webcam Video: If you would like to turn on your computer's webcam in addition to joining the meeting audio, you totally can! However, this is entirely optional.
Using the Built in Chat Box: You may find it helpful to use the in-meeting chat feature during a screensharing session so you don't have to switch back and forth with LibChat.
