Hello,

McKeldin Library’s Periodicals Room has recent copies of 26 American, foreign, and special interest newspapers; including:

  • The New York Times
  • USA Today
  • The Washington Post
  • The Washington Times

Papers are kept for a period of a week to a month and then either removed from the Periodicals Room until the microfilm arrives, or discarded. If you are unsure where a particular date of the newspaper you are looking for might be, ask at the Library Services Desk for assistance. Newspapers do not circulate and must stay within the Periodicals Room.

Hornbake Library maintains a collection of local Maryland newspapers in the Maryland Room.

To find out if we have the newspaper you’re looking for, go to the Libraries' homepage. Type the title of the newspaper into the UMD Discover search box in the middle of the page and click the "Search" button. If you do not see the result you were expecting, you can try limiting your search by the format "Newspaper."  To do this, click on "See More" under the Formats on the left side of the screen. Then scroll down to find the category “Newspapers" and check that box or click "Newspapers".  This will limit your search results to just newspapers.

Many newspapers also have online editions. Check UMD Discover or WorldCat for online access or try the paper’s official website. For UMD Student Newspapers, try https://digital.lib.umd.edu/student-newspapers or https://merrill.umd.edu/why-merrill/student-organization-list.
