If an article is available online through the UMD's Libraries, you can print a copy at one of our Eight Branches by logging in to a public computer there (or by using your laptop after downloading software) and sending the file to library printers.
If an article you need is only available in paper, you can make copies of it or scan it at the Libraries. When you find a good article, write down the name of the journal, year, volume/issue, plus the title and page numbers of the article.
Double-check that we actually have the specific volume with the article you need (sometimes we do not have every year of the journal). To do that, search for the journal title on the Libraries' homepage.
When you find the journal, look under Availability to see if we have the volume you need.
You will also need to find the call number on that page (in the third column, next to Status). It will be in the Periodical Stacks, where journals are arranged alphabetically by call number.
Once you find the journal on the shelf, look for the volume/issue you need and find the page number where your article begins. There are copy machines on each floor ($0.10/page), or you can use the branch's scanners (free-of-charge), but you cannot check out journals. (Faculty and graduate students can borrow journals for very short periods by special permission.)
Finally, before you come to one of the UMD Libraries, try googling the exact title of the article (in quotes); sometimes other people have scanned them and put them online already.
